Zero Day #5
Woke up to a call from Mom this morning, she was on her way to the vet to put Peanut (Marcy) to sleep :-( I got up and video chatted with her, saying goodbye to Peanut as she panted in the back of the car. I felt an overwhelming sadness that I couldn't be there for my mom and that this is a repeat of what happened in 2021 when she had to euthanize Sunny while I video chatted her from the side of the trail in Georgia. I laid in Henry's arms and cried afterwards, feeling guilty and panicked. Marcy and Sunny were my Mom's dogs but it was always the two of them and Sawyer making a trio. Now Sawyer is the only one left. The pups are getting old and it is terribly depressing to me.
I tried to shake the sadness and not to let the morning affect the rest of our day off in town.

The vibes are high, downtown is cute af, and unbelievably there are manmade rapids right in town on the Arkansas River that you can surf.
We walked downtown around 4 after lazing around all morning and afternoon. We ate at a restaurant overlooking the river with a view of the rapids. We watched rafts float through with fly fishers perched on the sides casting into the pale green water. I had the best pulled chicken tacos of my life and afterwards we walked through the park and watched people surf the wave.
Back at the room I called Mom and Gagoo and Dad. Then relaxed in the hot tub with my Kindle and an Olipop. Henry came out and joined me after awhile. When we headed back inside we organized our 100 miles worth of resupply and packed some things to get a head start in the morning. Ate our leftovers and headed to bed.
