Zero Day #1

Henry woke up multiple times with back pain and his good ole carpal tunnel pain in his right hand. He groaned on and off from 3 a.m. which meant neither of us got any good sleep. He’s going to have to start wearing his carpal tunnel brace again, poor guy.

We snacked on food from our food bags before heading out to get started on our multiple errands. First stop was the laundromat and while our clothes were washing we walked down to the grocery store to resupply. Really didn’t have to buy much because we carried so much food to start. Then to Walgreens so I could buy more Benadryl (planning ahead for more black fly and mosquito bites). Then we split up- I went back to the laundromat to dry our clothes while Henry went to an outfitter to buy some fishing lures. I went to a bakery and sat outside eating an espresso chocolate chip muffin and drinking oat milk Ghirardelli hot chocolate while waiting for Henry to show back up.

Next stop was St. Regis Canoe Outfitters where we bought a new stove and considered buying a whole lot of other gear but somehow pulled ourselves away. We asked if it was possible for them to send a package out for us on Monday and they said that was no problem at all!

We had gathered up quite a few things that we decided aren’t worth carrying- to hopefully make our portages go a little smoother (and lighter). I decided to send home my painting supplies because I’m just too damn tired to paint and any spare time I have I’ve been reading anyways. I sent home a knife because Henry has one, sent home my hammock bug net because I don’t see myself sleeping in it, just chilling in it. Lastly, sent home my small Nemo backpack that I was keeping snacks and some other gear in, which I’ll make fit in my Catalyst.

We walked back to the hotel feeling accomplished. Henry napped while I organized some gear. When he woke up we walked down to Aldi’s to grab the last few things for our resupply and then headed to the Chinese buffet. I’ve never really loved chinese buffets but damn this one was really freaking good. I had two plates of food and dessert. Back at the hotel we laid in a food coma and checked the weather. Thunderstorms tomorrow with a 10 day beautiful weather window after that. We decided another zero wasn’t out of the question, especially because I think Henry needs to rest his back and his hand more. Reserved the hotel for another night and fell asleep watching the Aristocats.

Zero Day #2

Slept great last night, no moaning or groaning from Henry thankfully. I was lazy in bed while he walked down to McDonald’s and Dunkin for breakfast for us. We’ve been chilling in the room ever since- I’ve been catching up on blogging and snacking. It'll feel good to get back on the water tomorrow. We got pizza for dinner down the road and to be honest it was some of the worst pizza either of us has ever had LOL. Cuddled up in bed under the big comforter and watched Free State of Jones. I think I only got out of bed twice today 😆
