April 17, 2023 Day 17

ZERO DAY #1!!!

We decided late last night to zero today and it is well deserved.

Hung out outside the motel rooms this morning with Voodoo and Eagle like true hiker trash before they headed out.

Walked down to the post office and mailed some of our warmer gear ahead to Pine that we haven’t been wearing at a all. Next stop was an iced chai latte and a breakfast sandwich before laying in bed, AC on high, watching TV and relaxing. I cannot believe we’re over 300 miles in.

April 18, 2023 Day 18

Mile 305.7-326.3 (20.6 miles)

Early wake up this morning to get packed up and picked up by Al. He took us down the road to his home where he cooked us blueberry pancakes and sausage and then took us back to trail. Back to hiking and it’s like my legs forgot how to hike. They felt so tired and stiff, it took about 10 miles for them to get warmed up. We climbed up into the Stuperstition Mountains and it wasn’t nearly as hot as it has been which was a huge blessing.

I listened to my new audiobook and time passed quickly. I stopped to splash my face in a creek before camp and Henry watched me from a rock and said “My God you are so beautiful”. Man still knows how to give me butterflies.

Added another big, beautiful rattlesnake to our sightings.

We have the tent set up on a semi flat piece of ground on the climb up into the mountains. A breeze is blowing nicely and Henry is cooking me mac n cheese. It is perfect cuddling weather tonight. I feel so content.
