Zero Day at Moose River Lodge

Henry had a terrible night with his hand and no matter how I tried to massage it nothing eased the pain. Neither of us got much sleep but he finally drifted off around 7 and I just stayed awake. I felt tired, hot, sticky and overwhelmed with the amount of chores we had to accomplish today.

While Henry slept I started with showering hoping it would make me feel better. It didn't. Honestly there's nothing I hate more than coin operated showers. $2 worth of quarters for 5 minutes. I can barely get my hair shampooed in 5 minutes. I put extra quarters in and still the water cut off before I could wash my face. I stood in the tiny stall brushing the tangles out of my hair and bashing my elbows off the walls before giving up and standing out by the sinks butt naked to finish. Washed my face in the sink, covered my body in lotion thanks to the tiny bottle of goat milk CBD cream I'm carrying and put on my laundry dress. I guess I did feel better afterwards even if it was nowhere near a relaxing shower.

I got back to the tent and started gathering up our clothes to do some laundry because they smelled wet and terrible. Henry was still asleep by the time I came back and I woke him up to ask him if he wanted to stay at the lodge tonight. At first he said no but the more he struggled to stay awake he gave in. I called the lodge and reserved a room and then we packed up well after check out and headed across the street.

The owner of the lodge was so nice, gave us our package and offered to drive us into town to get some food but I declined knowing right now all we wanted to do was collapse in the AC. We parked the canoe out front and cranked down the air conditioner while we laid our gear out to dry in the hot sun on the porch. Henry showered and we laid in bed relaxing for awhile before opening our resupply box and dumping it all out on the bed. We organized it and tried to figure out what we still needed to buy for our 200+ mile resupply.

We decided to wing it as usual and walked down to Mountain Market. I was hungry and had a hard time focusing on food to buy. I bought some chicken tenders and a chocolate mousse sundae from the deli and washed it down with some orange juice and a yogurt protein smoothie and felt much better.

Next stop was the hardware store to buy some fuel (snagged the last can, whew!) and bought some letter stickers since we officially named our canoe baby "Ramblin Fever". I'd be sitting outside singing it and we both turned to look each other at the same time and knew that was her name.

Back at the room Henry fell asleep for a few hours while I worked on my blog and walked down to the gas station to pick us up a calzone and poutine for dinner. He woke up long enough to eat dinner and cuddle and then we both fell back to sleep.
