April 23, 2023 Day 23
mile 390.6-406.2 (15.6 miles)
We are officially halfway done! Slept in some this morning, had more donuts for breakfast and then we stood at a gas station parking lot down the road to hitch back to trail. It's obvious the AZT is not quite as popular as the AT, you could tell people were really curious about what in the world we were doing, I caught a woman taking a picture of us across the road and we smiled and waved at her while she jumped back into her car, embarrassed.
It's hard to believe, but a dad and his son from the same Boyscout weekend trip were the ones to pick us up and give us a ride back to trail.
Passed the 400 mile marker shortly after getting back on trail. It wasn’t too hot today but I felt really sick and weak for most of the morning, which seems to be a pattern after zero days. I was probably dehydrated because as much as I try to force myself to drink water in town, the sink water in hotels is not very appetizing. I hiked super slow for the first 7 or 8 miles feeling nauseous and dizzy until it finally went away. We did a shorter day today because of our late start. We're set up near a creek and the gnats are terrible so cooked and ate dinner inside the cramped Duplex.
